Cockroaches : are among one the filthiest germ spreading carriers
There are over 3,500 identified species of cockroaches, they are very good at adapting to the environment. Cockroaches are “Nocturnal”, they typically prefer warm, humid climate, especially near food sources such as kitchens, toilets and bathrooms. They are usually scattered around the cracks in the walls or floor, in the drains and sewers.
Cockroaches are relatively primitive, having only three stages in their life cycle: egg, nymph and adult. The female deposits its eggs in groups surrounded by a leathery, bean-shaped egg case or capsule called an ootheca. Oothecae are very distinctive and can frequently be used to determine the species.
Some species carry the ootheca for several weeks attached to the back end of the body until getting close to hatching time. Different species deposit their eggs differently, some of the species can be Asexual reproduction, some species deposit the eggs in the ground, in the wall or furniture. The number of the eggs in the ootheca also varies depending on the species, normally there are 16 to 18 eggs in one ootheca, some may deposit many groups, some deposit 4 – 6 groups, and some can deposit up to 90 groups. Depending on the species, temperature and humidity, the eggs take different period to hatch, the eggs hatch faster with warmer temperature.
The young cockroaches, or nymphs, are wingless, they are white on hatching. After 3 – 4 weeks, they grow in stages by repeatedly shedding the cuticle or skin until they are fully grown. The adults may or may not possess wings, the species with wings, small wings grow out of the second section and third section of the thorax then grow bigger when fully grown. Once the cockroaches are fully grown, they start to reproduce, and after depositing all the eggs, they live for several more days.
